With only ten days left I knew I needed to get this blog created, and with Amanda now away on her amazing adventure (see her blog here), I finally have the time!! 😂
My dad has had a trip to Ireland on his bucket-list for some time now - the idea may have been hatched a number of years ago on an amazing trip we were able take together in Scotland. Over the past few years the subtle hints and gentle reminders have been coming more frequently, and we have finally been able to pull the trigger to make it happen. I am very excited that we are going to such a beautiful place, full of history, full of friendly and interesting people, and full of cozy pubs!!
The Plan: With very little knowledge about Ireland/Northern Ireland we were not sure where to go and how long to spend there. My first instinct was to go to Google Maps and start looking at the country, the cities, the towns, the villages, and the geography. We also spent some time reading quite a few "The 10 Best... In Ireland" articles. The must-haves for us were Dublin (Guinness Storehouse) and Belfast (history of The Troubles), as well as a side-trip to the Oxford Bar in Edinburgh (more back-story on that when we get there). Aside from those, we didn't really know where we would end up going, and what we would end up doing. In the end we have chosen two more villages to visit in addition to the three cities mentioned above - Dingle in the south-west corner, and Doolin on the west coast right beside the Cliffs of Moher. We have some day trips planned from all five places including a ferry to the Aran Islands, two bike rentals, several hikes, but our hope is to end each day in one of those cozy pubs enjoying some Irish stew, boiled bacon and cabbage, or a bowl of Coddle, and of course the odd pint of Guinness!!
My goal for the blog posts is to provide an update of our daily activities, as well as a little information/history about the things we saw. I hope that anybody reading enjoys, and thanks so much for following along!!
